Title
Mandala III - WHITE HIBISCUS
Artist
Diane Thornton
Medium
Painting - Watercolor & Ink
Description
The third in a series of ink-and-watercolor that combine island images in kaleidoscope-like symmetry. The piece is reminiscent of the Buddhist or Hindu mandala. Mandalas symbolize balance and here we see the balance of island life: white hibiscus, native to the Island of Hawaii, grows alongside plants such as the monstera. Five volcanoes make up the Big Island of Hawaii, among them Kilauea, which is currently active. In the center of the painting is the hono or sea turtle, a common sight in the islands. The four corners of the mandala are occupied by the seahorse and small tropical fish.
Looks great in a white mat and simple black frame, and if you order your prints on watercolor paper, it has the look of an original watercolor.
